Millners Guild president to speak at historical society event
Sparta — Ellen Christine Colon-Lugo, a costume historian and President of the NY Milliners Guild will trace the Hat in women's fashion in a presentation entitled Hats: Dior to the Atomic Age. The collection the Sparta Historical Society is showcasing will be highlighted as examples of Mid-Century (1950's) accessories for the change in skirt length and width. By using the Hat as example, societal changes can be tracked and documented according to norms in transportation and social gatherings. Women never left the house without a Hat!
Known as an Haute Couture milliner, Ellen Christine's pieces can be seen on the pages of Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and in many prominent fashion circles throughout the industry. Her showroom in Manhattan's Soho sees editors daily and fashions custom hats and headpieces to custom order.
