Newton Medical Center Foundation board names two new trustees

NEWTON — A veteran Sussex County educator and an accomplished financial advisor were recently named as members of the Newton Medical Center Foundation's board of trustees.
Wantage resident Kurt Walton, assistant principal of Newton High School, and Sparta resident Gregory P. Nolan, senior financial advisor with Wells Fargo Advisors Financial Network, joined the board, which is responsible for providing direction and oversight for the overall strategic plan for the foundation. With Walton and Nolan, the board grows to 29 members.
"Having trustees who not only support the hospital but are local leaders in their fields helps the Newton Medical Center Foundation in its work with the community," said Megan Sandow, chief development officer for the foundation.
"We are honored to add the educational and financial experience that Kurt Walton and Gregory Nolan bring to our board."

Walton began his career in education in 1986 at the Wallkill Valley Regional school district, where he served as head boys' basketball coach, social studies instructor and director of athletics. While at Wallkill, he was named Coach of the Year in 1993 by both the Star Ledger and New Jersey Herald In 1994, he joined the Kittatinny Regional school district, where he also led athletics and physical education, while also serving as president of the Sussex County Interscholastic League of Athletic Directors.
In 1997, Walton joined the Newton School District, where he has served in numerous roles, including director of athletics at Newton High School, assistant principal and later, principal, at Halstead Middle School, before becoming assistant principal of the high school in 2006. He has also served as president of the directors Athletic Association of New Jersey and president of the Sussex County Administrators Association during his time at the Newton District.
Nolan has worked as a financial advisor to both individual and institutional investors for more than 20 years, and is named among the list of Five Star Wealth Managers in New Jersey, Highest in Service and Overall Satisfaction by New Jersey Monthly Magazine.
Nolan began his career with A.G. Edwards and Sons, a New York Stock Exchange member firm, in 1991. While there, he was awarded the Chairmen's Council Recognition Award for providing trusted advice and exceptional service. He joined Wells Fargo Advisors in 2007.
Nolan and his wife, Dana, a stroke survivor whose life was saved at Newton Medical Center, have been steadfast supporters of the hospital, and are among the vocal advocates who comprise the Newton Medical Center Foundation's Ambassadors Club.
Nolan is also a member of the Lake Mohawk Golf Club Board as well as the Lake Mohawk Country Club. He was also treasurer for the Sparta Historical Society and a board member of the Sussex County Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Newton Medical Center has been providing care to the community since 1932 and serves the people of Sussex and Warren counties in New Jersey, Pike County in Pennsylvania, and southern Orange County in New York. The hospital is part of Atlantic Health System, one of the largest nonprofit health care systems in New Jersey.
The Newton Medical Center Foundation, the fundraising arm of Newton Medical Center, exists to philanthropically serve the present and future health and wellness needs of the community and beyond, as defined by Newton Medical Center. The foundation is governed by community trustees and guided by the principle of community service.
To that end, the foundation supports the continuous efforts of Newton Medical Center to identify and address urgent health care and health-related issues that require generous philanthropic commitments from individuals, groups, and organizations throughout the community.
