Nicholson and Askin join forces
SPARTA A new law firm, Nicholson and Askin, LLC, Attorneys At Law in Sparta has recently formed. It is a multi-state firm dedicated to solving challenges for corporate, small business and individual clients. Founding Partner Debra Lynn Nicholson has been practicing law continuously in Sparta for more than 30 years. She is a 1981 graduate of Seton Hall Law School. She clerked for Judge Frederic G. Weber in the Superior Court of Sussex County the following year.
Nicholson spent her early career as General Counsel to Eastern Propane Corporation. She went on to be one of the Founding Partners of Laddey, Clark, Nicholson and Ryan of Sparta and had been the principal of The Law Offices of Debra Lynn Nicholson since 1997. She has always been regarded as one of the top lawyers in Northern New Jersey and was recently awarded the Professionalism Award by the N.J. Commission on Professionalism in the Law.
Recognized for her service to the Sussex County Bar Association (and serving as that Bars first woman president in 1989), the New Jersey State Bar Foundation, and the New Jersey State Bar Association, Nicholsons commitment to the legal profession is unparalleled in Sussex County history. She is equally well known for her civic and community service, most notably with the Sussex County YMCA Board, Project Self-Sufficiency, the Sussex County Association for Retarded Citizens Guardianship Program, and the United Way. Nicholsons practice focuses on elder law, estate planning and administration with a focus on closely held business interests and their succession planning. She also concentrates on land use, planning and zoning, and transactional law.
Bill Askin, a native of Sparta, is co-founder of the firm. He is a graduate of Pope John XXIII High School, Lafayette College, and New York Law School. He is admitted to practice law in New Jersey, New York and Ohio. Prior to founding the firm, he served as senior vice president and legal counsel to one of the nations largest real estate, mortgage and title firms doing business in the states of New Jersey, New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
Askins practice now concentrates on real estate, land use and zoning, banking, general business transactions, litigation and personal injury law. He represents residential and commercial real estate brokerages and agents, individual buyers and sellers, developers, builders, and title and escrow companies in residential, commercial, vacant land, and condominium transactions. His qualifications include both transactional and litigation experience.
In addition to extensive trade association arbitration experience, Askin represents clients in administrative claims including Division of Real Estate and Civil Rights Commission investigations and hearings. He frequently lectures attorneys, brokers, agents, and title companies on real estate and business topics. He is a state-approved instructor for numerous continuing real estate education classes.
