— PGA Member Steven L. Demmer is bringing a wealth of experience and a clear vision to Lake Mohawk Golf Club in Sparta, NJ as their General Manager and Director of Golf.
Demmer served over 20 years as the PGA Professional at The Kittansett Club, Marion, MA prior to joining Lake Mohawk Golf Club last spring. His former club consistently ranks among Golf Digest’s “Top 100 Clubs” in America. It is that level of quality and professionalism Demmer embodies that was appealing to the member-owned golf club in Sparta, NJ.
“As a growing golf club, we look for ways to constantly improve the members’ enjoyment of our course, facilities, and social events. With Steve, we see the same level of commitment and quality that our members share” said Lake Mohawk Golf Club Board member, Charles Roberts of Franklin, NJ. “Though we were established in 1928, we continue to look for ways to improve our golf course design, increase playability, and expand our gourmet dining and social events. With his “Top 100” club experience, Steve has brought many exciting ideas and changes to our Club.”
Demmer is responsible for the full range of Club operations including course condition, golf instruction, tournaments, Pro Shop, fine and casual dining, social events, and golf-centered international travel. “The enjoyment of our full-service club by our members and their guests is my goal. Every day we work as a team to provide a well-maintained course, elegant Clubhouse with multiple gourmet dining options, and a busy tournament and social calendar. For many members, the Club is their home away from home. And that is just what we like to see!” he said.
The Club hosts a busy calendar of men’s and ladies’ tournaments and social events for its members, in addition to charitable golf outings for the community. One such outing is the annual Frank Redfern Golf Outing in support of Newton Memorial Hospital. Lake Mohawk Golf Club is also a proud supporter of the Sparta High School Golf Team. The Club hosts the Team’s practices and golf matches each week during the spring golf season.
Part of adding to the members’ fun are the expanded activities for all levels of players, from the brand new golfer to the low handicapper. The club’s new, low-key Ladies Margarita League, and Summer Junior Golf Program for boys and girls are two examples of enjoyable activities for members. “Adding a way for the ladies to learn to play in a friendly setting creates a fun learning environment” said Demmer. “It’s all very light-hearted as it is centered around the social aspects of golf and learning the basic principles of the sport” he added.
As a Quarter Century PGA Member, Demmer is one of 28,000 PGA of America professionals who teach and manage the game every day. To earn the distinguished PGA credential, a playing ability test, apprenticeship, and employment requirements must be met. With over 30 years in the game, he is a proud Member of the PGA. He has served as President of the New England Section of the PGA of America. He is a certified club fitter with Titleist and many other top golf equipment brands. Demmer and his staff put an emphasis on club fitting and expert teaching at the Lake Mohawk Golf Club, all designed to enhance the Member’s enjoyment of the game.
When not at the Club, you can find Demmer with his wife Nancy and daughter Rachel playing golf, skiing, snowmobiling, or ice fishing. You can also find him playing catch with his dogs, Copper and Onyx.
Lake Mohawk Golf Club is a beautiful 6,280 yard, par 71 course, which features 18-holes in a very serene setting. The course is nestled between Lake Mohawk, the largest man-made lake in New Jersey, and a high alpine ridge. It is said to be among the best conditioned golf courses in the state. It was originally designed in 1928 as an amenity for the residents of the new resort community. Today, the private Club is an independent entity, and you need not be a resident of the Lake Mohawk Community to join.
