Photography studio opens in White Deer

SPARTA — George Segale, a lifetime Sparta resident, photographer, film maker, author and educator has launched a new photo studio in downtown Sparta, New Jersey in the Lake Mohawk Plaza. The grand opening was on Wednesday, November 1. The studio is located at 10 White Deer Plaza in a newly renovated historic building.
The George Segale Studio will also be operating as a fine art gallery featuring the work of local photographers, artisans and craftspeople. Each month GSS will host a gallery opening for a local artist to display, share and sell their work. The first photographer featured on the night of the grand opening was local photographer Glen Russel. Glen has installed a collection of various photos he has captured throughout his years right on Lake Mohawk.
Local wood worker and craftsman, Peter Oesen, will have a permanent residency at GSS offering custom hand crafted wooden frames using various exotic woods and inlays. His artisan furniture will be displayed for sale towards the end of the year as well.
Segale, a public high school photography and video teacher, has been in business since 2005 with a focus on the wedding industry. He studied at William Paterson University and earned his BFA in Fine Art & Graphic Design. He later earned his teaching credentials through New Jersey State University. George still resides in his hometown of Sparta with his wife Lana, and three children.
“I want to bring something fresh and new to my community," he said. "Picasso once said, “that the meaning of life is to find what you are good at; but the purpose of life is to share it with others”. I really believe in that. My passion however, is simple, and that is to make people happy by helping them save their most precious memories with my skills as a photographer and filmmaker. Although the work itself is fun, it’s the feeling I get when I share my work with my clients. That’s what keeps me in the game.”
Segale added, “I also plan on launching a monthly campaign entitled ‘What’s YOUR Passion?’ In which I will highlight one person and do a photo or video session with them about what their passion is, why it makes them who they are, and most importantly, to help them share THEIR talents with the world. It all threads together.”
In the past year Segale had a photography textbook published, (Digital Photography for the New Generation) which is now available on Amazon as well as at the new studio. He plans to host photography workshops this January and is planning a spring exhibition of student work from 3 local high schools that are using his book in their photo classes — Sparta High, Sussex Tech and Hopatcong High School.
“I’m not sure where this is going to take us," he said. "But I can guarantee this; it’s going to be fun. A Lot of fun.”
