SPARTA — Askin & Hooker, LLC announce the second annual Labor Day 5K. The event will take place Monday, September 4, at 9 a.m. starting at the Lake Mohawk Plaza, and will benefit the preservation and beautification of Lake Mohawk. A pre-race packet pickup will be available Sunday at the Boardwalk from 4 to 6 p.m.
This race is full of excitement for runners, sponsors, and spectators! Water and misting stations will be available at the finish, and sponsor/vendor, and information tents will be set up as well. Participants will receive a specialized weather wicking short-sleeve t-shirt and goodie bag while supplies last, and 60 medals will be handed out to male and females of different age groups. If you’re a team player, make sure to register as a team! The three largest teams will win special team awards. Immediately following, the Ski Hawks will present a thrilling water ski show.
The course begins and ends at the Rock Arch in the festive Lake Mohawk village. For the first mile of the course, expect a rush of runners, walkers, and strollers making their way through shaded, flat roads. The rest of the course will be similar, with an “out and back” closed course. Enjoy music while you run, and make sure to stick around after the race! Local sponsor activities and award ceremonies will follow. Make sure to check the website a few days later — you might find your photo.
The Lake Mohawk Preservation Foundation is dedicated to preserving and beautifying Lake Mohawk, the Upper Lake, and the Alpine Pools for years to come. This includes providing education to the community regarding how to keep these bodies of water safe, researching new lake technologies, and partnering with other community organizations to keep the Lakes as healthy as possible.
Our sponsors and volunteers make this great event happen! Bill Askin, a long-time board member of the Lake Mohawk Foundation, and Todd Hooker, his law partner, have brought a huge amount of support from Askin & Hooker, LLC, our official sponsor. In addition, a number of community members have contributed gifts, time, and encouragement. If your business would like to sponsor this event, we have a variety of options available; likewise, if you’d like to volunteer, please contact us to find out how you can get involved in this great community event!
