NEWTON — Sussex County Community College (SCCC) was recently presented with a check for $6000 from the FirstEnergy Foundation. Jackie Espinoza, JCP&L external affairs manager for Sussex County, awarded the check to SCCC President Dr. Jon Connolly at the SCCC Public Safety Training Academy (PTSA).
The FirstEnergy Foundation contributes to local nonprofit organizations. The Foundation assists in strengthening the economic and social areas of the community. The Foundation, funded solely by FirstEnergy, spreads their corporate philosophy of providing support for the community.
The check will cover the expense for important training materials used by instructors so that they can update local fire fighters in safety functions. The funds will also be used for training programs in rescue extraction and training operations.
“It is great to have our local utility company involved in our first responder training,” said Larry Bono, PSTA Operations Administrator. “These courses will be a great addition to the list of courses we now offer at the Academy. This will not only benefit the students we serve, but ultimately the residents and visitors to Sussex County.”
