SCCC's Skylander Challenge
NEWTON — Get a great workout and help raise money for student scholarships at Sussex County Community College’s (SCCC) 10th annual Skylander 5K and 10K Challenge. This year’s event will be held on Sunday, October 1 on the SCCC campus. These two USATF-certified events will include a 10-kilometer race as well as a 5-kilometer event. Both races begin at 9 am with packet pick-up starting at 7 am.
To celebrate this year’s 10th annual race, teams are encouraged to dress up as their favorite hero. The winning team will have a $500 scholarship named after them or their favorite hero.
"By participating in this race, your contribution will help many students achieve their educational goals," said Jessica Beutel, Assistant Director of Special Events at SCCC. "It's a great day for everyone involved."
The 5K and 10K races follow the same route that will take participants through and around the beautiful SCCC campus. Runners will start in the upper campus and finish in front of the Connor Green in the campus center making for a fast “net” downhill run.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Sussex County Community College Foundation and student scholarships. The race is being sponsored by iHeart MEDIA and THORLABS.
Awards will be given to the top three overall male and female runners, male and female SCCC students and the top three corporate and school teams. Additional awards will be given by 10 year age groups 7 to 80 plus. The awards will be distributed after the race with participants also enjoying refreshments and music underneath the Pavilion.
