Scout completes project for Wounded Warriors

— A Sparta boy scout has recently spent time giving back to those who have served the country.

Michael Delaney completed his Eagle Project for the Wounded Warrior Project. As an outdoorsman, he chose to help build handicap accessible hunting blinds for The Wounded Warriors at Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey, The project was done through Hunters Helping Heroes, and the project encompassed over 102 hours of work.

The hunting blinds are now being utilized by Wounded Warriors so that they may still be able to hunt and enjoy the outdoors. During his scouting years, Michael was also very active outside of the Boy Scouts to include lacrosse, baseball and wrestling.

Delaney, the son of Jim and Linda Delaney, is a Junior at Sparta High School. He began scouting as a first grader in 2003 as a Tiger Cub in Pack 82.

While in Pack 82, Delaney attended several outings to include overnights at USS New Jersey and Camden Aquarium and Liberty Science Center sleep-ins. He competed in several Pinewood Derby events as well.

Delaney completed his Arrow of Light in 2008 and crossed overto Sparta Boy Scout Troop 150 and started as a Tenderfoot. He attended several summer camps at Ressica Falls and outings including Gettysburg Battlefield, West Point, White Water Rafting and COPE Course.

He also attended several Klondike competitions and several High Adventure trips, which include Sabattis Adirondack Trek earning the 50 Miler Patch, canoeing and hiking the Adirondacks, the BSA High Adventure Camp at Sea Base in the Florida Keys, which featured living aboard a 40-foot sailboat for one week sailing the Florida Keys, fishing and snorkeling.

He warned merit badges, which include Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the Nation, Citizenship in the World, First Aid, Wilderness Survival and Scholarship. Delaney has held several leadership positions in Troop 150, including Patrol Leader, Quartermaster, Den Chief and Instructor. He was also elected to the Order of the Arrow.

Delaney would like to pursue a career in engineering or finance.
