Service organization awards scholarships to local students

- Sparta UNICO, the local branch of a service organization that celebrates Italian heritage and the community, recently awarded scholarships to six local high school students. Each of the eligible seniors received $1,000 from the organization.
The money distributed is intended to help students defer the cost of college expenses with some love and financial help., said Ray Shupak, president of Sparta UNICO.
"These annual scholarship presentations are one of the most gratifying awards we have been giving since 1998," Shupak said. Sparta UNICO remains committed to help these young future adults of tomorrow,” said Ray Shupak, President Sparta UNICO
The following students are the recepients of the 2018 UNICO Scholarships:
Rebecca Annunziata, Vernon Township High School.
Justin Modafferi, Kittatinny Regional High School
Brianna Kimble, High Point Regional High School
Brianna Larry , High Point Regional High School
Timothy Hendershot, Wallkill Valley Regional High School
Victoria Caruso, Pope John XXIII High School
Sparta UNICO, started in 1998, is a 20-year-old chapter of a 100-year-old National UNICO organization and serves all Sussex County residents. According to Shupak, their motto, “Service Above Self,” resonates with every member who gives their time and effort to the community.
