Jocelyn Anker of Sparta was among more than 2,900 candidates for graduation in the University of Georgia’s Class of 2023. She was a candidate for a master’s degree in psychology.

• Sparta resident Samantha Romano spent fall break serving others through James Madison University’s Alternative Fall Break (AFB) Program. She volunteered with Shenandoah National Park. The student-led AFB trips were Oct. 18-20.Each trip focused on a social issue, such as homelessness, resettlement, environmentalism or community wellness, in a specific region. More than 50 students embarked on four fall break trips in the region.

• Eighty-two Muhlenberg College student athletes, including Taylor Canfield of Sparta, were named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll for the fall season. To be named to the Academic Honor Roll, a student athlete must be a sophomore or higher in class standing and have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.4. Canfield is a senior who plays field hockey. She is studying biology.

Cassandra Lasko of Sparta has received a partial scholarship to Rochester Institute of Technology to pursue performing arts in instrumental music. She is a first-year student in the biochemistry program. A School of Performing Arts opened last year at RIT to offer non-majors in performing arts more opportunities to continue their performing passions in college.

Christine Clear of Sparta earned a master’s degree in library and information science from Valdosta (Ga.) State University during the summer.

Carly Chlodnicki of Sparta graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communication studies from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va., in August.

Yash Rameshbhai Amin of Sparta was among the New York Institute of Technology students who received degrees last spring. Amin completed New York Tech’s master’s program in energy management.

Matthew Sigillo of Sparta received a bachelor’s degree in commerce & business administration from the University of Alabama last spring.

Jillian Stote of Sparta was named to the fall president’s list at West Virginia University in Morgantown for obtaining a 4.0 GPA. She is a senior majoring in psychology with a business minor. She is also a member of the Sigma Kappa sorority.

Cosmo Esposito of Byram, a 2020 graduate of Pope John XXIII Regional High School in Sparta, was named to the spring dean’s list at High Point University in High Point, N.C. He is a senior and intends to attend the new High Point University Law School next year.

Andrew Kadar and Ellie Sheeran, both of Sparta, were named to the spring dean’s list at Ithaca College in Ithaca, N.Y.
