The Snufftown Garden Club received three Silver Awards from the Garden Club of New Jersey at its annual meeting June 18 at Rutgers University.

The Ruth B. Somerville Silver Trophy was awarded for the club’s “Trash to Groceries” project. Club members have been saving deposit bottles and cans, then using money from their redemption to buy grocery and personal hygiene items for the food pantry in Franklin.

The East Orange Silver Trophy was awarded for the “Sharing our Talents” project. At the Teen Arts Festival this spring at Sussex County Community College, club members taught middle and high school students the ancient art of flower pounding.

The Moorestown Silver Trophy was awarded for the club’s work at the Hardyston Community Garden, which included planting vegetables in three of the plots. When harvested, these vegetables will be donated to the food pantry in Franklin.

The club also received a certificate of merit for its submission of a 2023-24 yearbook.

Rose Wolverton, the club president, was recognized for her hard work and leadership in establishing Blue Star and Gold Star markers at the Northern New Jersey Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Sparta.
