Sparta residents Leanne Kurian and Surekha Selvaraj recently took part in the Dance Grand Prix Italia, an international dance competition in Cesenatico, Italy.
They are part of the 46-member team from the Kalashri School of Arts in Parsippany that competed against about 35 teams from across the globe.
The Kalashri School team earned top honors in the folk category and won the award for best costumes.
The team also placed second in the ethnic category, and the choreography by their teacher, Guru Bina Menon, received special recognition.
