Sparta man receives educators award Egan awarded 2014 Governor's Teacher Recognition Award

— Harvey C. Egan Jr., a Sparta Resident for 13 years, recently received 2014 Governor’s Teacher Recognition Award.

Egan has been an educator in the Fair Lawn public school system for over 26 years.

He has spent time teaching in the middle school system and most recently has spent the past three years in the elementary school system. He also received the Governors Teacher Recognition Award in 2001, Fair Lawn and Outstanding Educator of the Year 1994, Fair Lawn.

“As a physical education specialist, I feel it is my responsibility to teach and prepare students to be physically active throughout their lives. Through physical and health education, students learn patterns for a healthy lifestyle, which have major impacts on the future of the population’s health,” Egan said.

Egan strives to instill good sportsmanship, teamwork and respect for one another through a variety of sports and activities. In his physical education environment, he stresses the

importance of lifelong fitness while promoting positive health behaviors.

Egan has also been involved extensively in the Soccer Program at Fair Lawn, where he is currently Girls Varsity Assistant Soccer Coach. He has received multiple awards for coaching throughout his career.
