A delegation of students from Sparta earned top honors at the 2026 JewQ International Jewish Knowledge Championship, bringing home gold, silver and bronze medals after competing against regional finalists from 25 countries in New York City.
The competition, organized by CKids International, is modeled after a spelling bee format but tests participants on Jewish knowledge. Organizers said the Sparta students advanced to the international stage after outperforming more than 4,500 participants worldwide.
CKids International is part of the global network operated by Chabad-Lubavitch and reaches more than 200,000 Jewish children in 63 countries, focusing largely on students who attend public schools rather than Jewish day schools.
Program leaders said many participants are the only Jewish student in their class and spend months studying independently to qualify for the championship.
This year’s event comes as families prepare for Passover, which begins April 1 and commemorates themes of learning, tradition and freedom in Jewish life.
Organizers also noted that the competition coincided with Education Day USA on March 29, established in honor of Menachem Mendel Schneerson and his emphasis on education for children of all backgrounds.
