Sparta Troop 150 camps out
SPARTA In early March, 17 Scouts and four adult leaders went camping at the Citta Scout Reservation near Barnegat. Citta is a Boy Scout Camp located in the Pinelands of New Jersey.
The Troop enjoyed warmer weather than usual. The weather was perfect for sleeping, said Sammy Suhoke, a Star Scout.
Citta is not your typical campground instead of hiking, the boys went geo-catching. Geo-catching was a nice change from our usual hike said Anthony Pugliese, a First Class Scout.
The Scouts cooked their own meals by Patrol. The meals included spaghetti, steak, pancakes, and soup.
The Scouts who attended this event also got bragging rights – the rifle range was open and the Scouts shot targets with 22 caliber rifles. Although the targets were small, the Scouts demonstrated great marksmanship. Each Scout was instructed on gun safety by the range master and was then guided by their scoutmaster. The boys said they enjoyed every aspect of this weekend.
Sparta Troop 150 serves Sparta and surrounding communities. They meet at 7 p.m. on Monday nights at the Sparta United Methodist Church. All interested boys between the ages of 11 and 18 are welcome. For more information, visit www.spartatroop150.org
