Sussex County’s Covid cases get younger

Covid-19. Four months into the pandemic, Sussex County residents under 44 accounted for 27 percent of all cases. Now they account for 55 percent.

The two charts above show how Covid-19 in Sussex County has evolved over that time, starting out by affecting mostly older residents. Young people now make up the bulk of the county’s coronavirus cases since the pandemic began.

The charts above were issued by the Sussex County Department of Health one year apart, the one on the left on June 28, 2020 and the one on the right on July 2, 2021.

From March 2020 through June 2020:

Residents under 20 accounted for 2.1 percent of all cases; now they account for 18 percent.

Residents under 25 accounted for 5.1 percent of all cases; now they account for 27 percent.

Residents under 35 accounted for 16 percent of all cases; now they account for 42 percent.

Residents under 44 accounted for 27 percent of all cases; now they account for 55 percent.

Residents under 55 accounted for 44 percent of all cases; now they account for 58 percent.
