— Sussex Honda’s team members recently volunteered at Byram Animal Rescue Kindness Squad (BARKS), a local animal shelter, as part of Honda’s second annual National Week of Service. The volunteer project is for associates at Honda companies in North America to join forces with their dealers and suppliers in a coordinated effort to make a difference in the communities where they live and work.
Kristin Alexander, Sussex Honda’s Office Manager, reached out to local organizations to see if anyone was in need of assistance. BARKS replied, and Kristen was soon working with Darlene O'Connell, President of the shelter, to coordinate timing and work to be performed.
Staff members from Sussex Honda spent the day cleaning and painting the facility, as well as walking and caring for the animals. Some assisted with the adoption process and were able to see pets find forever homes. Many items were donated such as pet food, pet accessories, and cleaning supplies.
Last year members from Sussex Honda worked with DASI, a local nonprofit organization that provides comprehensive services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Sussex Honda General Manager Cheryl Eichner says they plan to continue participating every year. Eicher reflects, “We are proud to support our community and it’s great that American Honda gives us the opportunity to do so.”
