Troop 150 Scouts test their skills at the Cherry Ridge Rifle Range

SPARTA — In May, 29 scouts from Troop 150 camped at Winnebago Scout Reservation in Rockaway Township followed by rifle shooting at the Cherry Ridge Rifle range in Highland Lakes. The scouts camped on Friday night and spent Saturday at the rifle range. They attended a shooting safety course where the scouts used black powder rifles which were shot from five yards. The scouts also had the opportunity to shoot .22 rifles from 15 yards to the target and AR-15 military rifles at a distance of 30 yards.
Ben Toscano was awarded best shot due to his superior accuracy — he did so well that he was invited back to shoot with a more advanced competitive group.
Sparta Troop 150 meets at 7 p.m. on Monday nights at the Sparta United Methodist Church. All interested boys between the ages of 11 and 18 are welcome. For more information visit spartatroop150.org.
