Woman's club awards three scholarships
Sparta — The Junior Woman’s Club of Sparta (JWCS) is pleased to announce that three scholarships, each in the amount of $1,000, have been awarded to three local female graduating high school seniors.
Morgan Ruel of Vernon Township HIgh School, attending DeSales University in the fall; Adriana Purcell from Pope John XXIII Regional High School, enrolling at University of Pennsylvania; and Jamie Rennie from Sparta HIgh School, continuing to Fairleigh Dickinson University; are the 2018 award winners.
As a reflection of the JWCS’ mission, awards were based primarily on service to community and school. This year JWCS received over 35 applications and applicants volunteered over 1,500 hours to various local, national and international organizations. Two of the scholarship winners, Jamie and Adriana, were formally honored on June 2, 2018, at Sparta Day. Morgan received her award at her graduation at Vernon High School on June 12, 2018.
The Junior Woman’s Club of Sparta, comprised of women from Sparta and the surrounding areas, comes together as friends to foster goodwill while organizing events that bring our community together. Each year, the JWCS raises and distributes thousands of dollars to local organizations and charities.
