HARDYSTON — As the Sussex County YMCA prepares to complete a $3.8 million renovation and expansion next month, it’s rolling out dozens of programs in sports, the arts, enrichment classes and swim instruction so kids and adults to stay active and engaged throughout the winter.
Registration is underway for the Winter 1 session, which starts Jan. 6 and runs through March 2. On Jan. 13, the Sussex County YMCA will mark completion of the 9,000-square-foot addition (including a gymnasium) with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. followed by a community open house.
Here are a few highlights of Winter 1 offerings:
    • The YMCA wants everyone to learn to swim, and offers progressive lesson for teens and adults as well as for babies and young children. Knowing how to swim is a great way to exercise at every stage of life, and it prevents drowning.
    • Little Laxers, floor hockey and tennis join gymnastics, basketball, indoor archery and sports conditioning among the many sports programs for kids.
    • Adults can join teams too: the Y runs leagues in basketball, pickleball, dodgeball, and volleyball.
