Youth Fishing Derby at The Sussex County Farmer’s Market

— On August 19, the Hooked on Fishing 4-H club is hosting a Youth Fishing Derby from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sussex County Fairgrounds. This free event will be held at the pond near the Sussex County Farmer’s Market. Bring your own lucky fishing pole and bait or borrow fishing gear on site. Bait will be available for purchase. Junior fisher-folk will fish the pond for golden bellied sunfish, splashy bass and whiskered catfish. Catch and release is encouraged.
First time fisher-folks will receive helpful hints from the Hooked on Fishing 4-H club members. Free registration and borrowed gear can be picked up at the Sussex County Farmer’s Market building. The Fishing Derby is open to kids of all ages up to 21 years old. Free goodie bags will be available courtesy of the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife. Water and snacks will be available for sale at the Sussex County Farmer’s Market.
The Hooked on Fishing 4-H Club is hosting the event in coordination with sponsors: Sussex County Sheriff’s Department, the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife, and the Sussex County Federation of Sportsmen.
