Sparta - Marlin Art is proud to present Robert Lui as the Guest Artist for the Junior Woman’s Club of Sparta’s 2007 Art Auction. Currently on display at First Hope Bank, 200 Woodport Road, Sparta, is one of Mr. Lui’s featured paintings, of the Memorial Library at the University of Notre Dame. In addition to that painting, the auction will feature all types of art. The event will be at the Lake Mohawk Golf Club on Saturday, March 24, 2007 at 7 p.m. Robert Lui currently works exclusively with Marlin Art as their premier resident artist and will be appearing at the auction where his work will be featured among the works of many other artists. Born in Saigon (now Ho Chi Minh City), Vietnam and educated at LaSalle D’adran French High School, Lui was accepted to the famed Ecole des deaux de Delat at the early age of 17. It was there that he developed his painting technique. His first exhibition of his work was held in 1970 with a group of fellow students who toured the major cities of Vietnam. In 1971, at the age of 20, Mr. Lui had his first one-man show at the Bank of Bangkok. He studied art in France and continued to exhibit his art as well as teach art in Asia for the next 10 years. In 1982, Mr. Lui and his family immigrated to the United States. Since then, he has continued to participate in numerous art exhibits and has won many recognized awards. One of Mr. Lui’s proudest achievements is winning second place at the Mystic Connecticut Art Show, the most prestigious art show in the Northeast. In the mid 1980’s, Robert Lui worked at developing his skills through wide and diverse techniques from Impressionism to Abstract. In his impressionist painting, he uses light and color to visually describe the natural world. His understanding of the basic elements of impressionism has enabled Mr. Lui to articulate the painting genres of landscape, seascape and figures. In his abstracts, there are remarkable rich palettes of paint that blend compositions and individual elements into an overall coherence of design and color. Mr. Lui’s work has been showcased at galleries throughout the United States. Tickets for this event can be purchased at Buckles and Bows in the Upper Lake Plaza or by calling 973-300-7309.
