MILFORD---The Milford Health & Wellness Center in Milford, Pa., has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in mammography following a recent survey by the American College of Radiology. The ACR, headquartered in Reston, Va., is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic/interventional programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology, and the delivery of comprehensive health care services. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. As part of the accreditation and peer review, they assess the adequacy of facility equipment and the qualifications of personnel. Both are critical to final certification. Sara Cottone is a radiologic technologist with advanced degrees in radiology and mammography. She has worked as a mammography technologist since 1984 and at the Milford Health & Wellness Center since its opening in 2001. "This is the career path I chose over 20 years ago and I have never regretted it," said Cottone. "Breast cancer is the second cause of death in women. Early detection is so important and a mammography can reveal cancer in its early stage. This makes what I do more than just a job." Cottone resides in Shohola, Pa., with her husband, Faro. They are parents of three adult children and grandparents of four grandchildren. For more information, call 570-409-8484.
