Miss Wantage is Queen of the Fair
Augusta n Mary Lanzilotti of Wantage is Queen of the Fair. Out of 20 entrants, each representing her hometown, Lanzilotti triumphed on the first Saturday of the Sussex County Farm and Horse Show, NJ State Fair. The theme of this year’s pageant was: “Solutions to Sussex County Events”. Twenty contestants crossed the stage in an evening gown and tiara to explain why they sought the crown and to discuss their future plans. They were chosen on their academic studies and community service. Six finalists were selected: Miss Frankford Catherine Colloccia, Miss Hamburg Maria Marino, Miss Branchville Heather Yaden, Miss Green Township Amanda Carlin, Miss Wantage Mary Lanzilotti and Miss Andover Township Mary McCormick. Each finalist was individually called back up to the stage to answer a question about their resume. The finalist was then asked to answer a question as to how they would solve an issue that pertains to the county. Scores were given for poise, appearance and accomplishments. Miss Hamburg Maria Marino received second runner-up. Miss Andover Township Mary McCormick won first runner-up. The pageant was sponsored by The New Jersey Herald and was judged by Joan Thurstans, who reigned as Mrs. NJ International 1996 and Ms. NJ American Queen 2004, Mary Garcia, Ms. Latina US 2007 and John Fletcher, author and photographer. The Queen of the Fair received $500 and a $100 gift box from Avon, the first runner-up, $300 and the second runner-up $200.
