National Bike to Work Day' set for May 19
Sussex County - TransOptions, a non-profit transportation management association serving Sussex, Morris and Warren counties, is calling on local commuters to participate in national “Bike to Work Day” on May 19. The event is sponsored loically by the association to raise awareness and encourage local commuters to consider cycling as an alternative to driving to work. “With rising gas prices and an increasing environmental awareness on the part of New Jersey residents, TransOptions sees cycling as a great option for getting to work,” said John F. Ciaffone, TransOptions’ president. “Commuters who are cyclists and live within a reasonable distance to work are encouraged to try biking to work on May 19, a national day of celebration for socially and environmentally responsible commuting practices,” he added. TransOptions has been joined by a number of area businesses to offer each cyclist an opportunity to participate in a raffle for gift certificates from bike shops, a restaurant and a $100 Amex Gift card provided by TransOptions. To be eligible for the prize drawing, cyclists must pre-register at the TransOptions Web site, TransOptions.org, and bike to work on May 19. For information, call 973-267-7600. This is the first year that TransOptions has sponsored this event. “Bike to Work Day” is promoted nationally by the League of American Bicyclists.
