Stockholm — Let the kids E.S.C.A.P.E! KIDS E.S.C.A.P.E. is the newest offering presented to local children by Jennifer and Patrick Rumore. It all started in 2004 with Smart Start Too! Childcare and Learning Center, on Route 23 south in Stockholm. By the request of their existing and past clients, they have expanded their facility once again, this time creating an exciting before and after school program for children ages 7-12. First, it was the need for more quality care for infants in the area, so a year after they opened their new facility, they took over another unit in their building at 2841 Rt 23 South, in order to create an infant and young toddler “suite.” Next, parents were asking them to create an age appropriate before and after school program, because most places parents brought their children to were childcare centers that weren’t age appropriate for the school-age children. That’s when the idea of their newest endeavor was born. E.S.C.A.P.E. is an acronym for “Exciting Summer Camp and Afterschool Planned Entertainment.” They spared no expense in outfitting this space with activities school students will enjoy. Two of the most eye-catching additions upon entering the facility (besides the brightly painted walls) are the 37-inch LCD televisions mounted on the wall for PlayStation 2 and GameCube. There is also a giant sofa for the kids to sit and relax on when they watch a movie on the 91-inch movie screen. There is also an arts and craft area where the children can create and make almost anything they can dream up. The next room is the “game room”. In this room we have a ping pong table, a pool table, and an air hockey table. There are also tables where the kids can play board games. Its not all fun and games though. In the back there is a “quiet room” for doing homework, studying, and reading. “We ask the parents what their preference is to how much homework they want their child to do, and our staff will assist the children if they need help,” said Jennifer Rumore, owner.s There is also the playground for outside activities when the weather is permitting. “Everyone who has seen Kids E.S.C.A.P.E. is impressed by our offerings, and is excited that we’re here” she added. The facility is open from 6:00 a.m. to 6:45 p.m., with a bus stop for Hardyston, Immaculate Conception and Sussex Christian. They also provide transportation for Franklin and Ogdensburg.
