Young voices can audition a la 'Glee' Sussex — The first auditions for two performance choirs for children and young adults that will perform “a la Glee” will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17 from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Cornerstone Playhouse, 74 Fountain Square, in Sussex Borough. These choirs will perform contemporary music from Broadway to pop. Two choirs will be formed: one for students in fifth- through eighth-grades and another for students in ninth- through 12th grades. This will be a tuition based choir. Tuition will be based on the number of members but will be in the range of $200 to $225 for each session. There will be two sessions a year. "We are looking to have about 40 members in each choir," said Scott Mason, artistic director of the Cornerstone Playhouse. "Boys and young male singers are especially desired." Prepare for auditions Vocal, show or choir experience is desired but not necessary. Auditioners should prepare a Broadway or contemporary song for the audition and bring music for the accompanist. Auditions will be private and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Auditioners should also be prepared to do some movement and vocaleases. The choirs will be under the direction of Jennifer Kitchin of Sparta, whose focus will be on developing the members in all forms of contemporary pop and Broadway music. She will also choreograph. Jennifer Kitchin holds a BFA in musical theater from the University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music. She performed nationally in shows such as "Man of La Mancha," "The Fantasticks," "Carnival." She also toured the country as an actor/director with the Missoula Children’s Theatre working with thousands of children to stage full musical productions on a weekly basis. Rehearsals will be on Tuesdays starting on Sept. 20, from 4:15 to 6:15 p.m. for the younger singers and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for the older choir. The first concert will be presented in December. One of the first endeavors, however, will be a naming and logo contest for members. For more information contact Scott Mason at adcornerstoneplayhouse@hotmail.com or call him at 973-875-8465
