Sparta — The New Sussex Symphony (NSS) is accepting Legacy Fund scholarship applications for 2010/2011 season. Its first concert will be held Saturday, Nov. 20 at 3 p.m. and will take place at the First Presbyterian Church in Newton featuring Szu-Han Chuang-Tsay performing as soloist. Chuang-Tsay is a graduate of The Juilliard School and has played throughout Asia, Europe and the United States. In addition to her performance, the orchestra will present the winner of the annual Legacy Fund scholarship. The Legacy Fund was created in honor of the symphony’s founding and long-standing members. Payable to a private string instructor for continuing lessons, the scholarship is awarded on behalf of, and for benefit of, a string student who resides in Sussex County and is in the seventh through 12th grade. The student need not be the highest technically performing artist, but must exhibit dedication, passion and love for their music. The 2010 winners were Kathryn Chamberlain (eighth grade violinist) and Barbara Wolfe (10th grade violist). 2011 applications must be received by Oct. 29. To get one, contact Melinda McCoy Miller at nss@nac.net.
