SPARTA — After a successful first year providing choruses for children and offering musical instruction to residents of Sussex and Warren Counties, NJ Conservatory is scheduling interviews for preparatory division and auditions for youth choruses for the 2011-2012 academic year at their facilities in Sparta. Both these divisions got off to a great start last year mirroring the Morris County divisions. Sparta Youth Division Choruses will include primary (grades 1 and 2), junior (grades 3 to 5) and intermediate (grades 6 to 8). Auditions for junior and intermediate are scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 20 and 27. There is no audition required for primary chorus. For information and audition appointment, call 973-402-2004. Leave your name, September grade and telephone number. Your call will be returned and an appointment scheduled. Rehearsals begin in October at Sparta United Methodist Church, 71 Sparta Avenue. Sparta Preparatory Division, also based at Sparta United Methodist Church, will offer private lessons taught by dedicated certified music professionals on piano, organ, string, brass and wind instruments for beginner to advanced students. Classes will begin in October. Preparatory Division provides regular performance opportunities for its students. Call 973-402-2004 for information and to arrange an interview. NJ Conservatory has been in existence since 1987, beginning when 45 singers recruited from five churches in northern Morris County presented their first concert. The following year the group incorporated and got not-for-profit status. Over the years the conservatory has grown to include adult Symphonic Chorus (now 80 voices strong from Morris, Sussex and Warren Counties), adult Chamber Choir (28 fine auditioned voices), Boonton Youth Division (four choruses), Sparta Youth Division (three choruses), Boonton and Sparta Preparatory Divisions, and a professional symphonic and baroque orchestra.
