Northwest Christian School students help feed the homeless

Newton — One hundred and sixty-five people will enjoy a hot meal this Thanksgiving thanks to the efforts of students, families, and the staff of Northwest Christian School. In October, Abbie Vallimont’s seventh grade class began gathering loose change. The goal was to raise enough money to feed 100 people at the Market Street Missions, which is located in Morristown. Market Street Missions was founded in 1889 to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of needy individuals in Northern NJ through structured programs. Market Street Missions provides food, shelter, clothing and other necessities, while providing for emotional and spiritual needs with guidance and life changing programs. Every $2.75 collected by the students will feed one person on Thanksgiving Day. The students rose to the challenge, and when the final count came in, enough change had been collected to feed 165 people. “We all have so much. This is a great opportunity for the students to see how a little can go a long way to help those in need,” said Vallimont. “This is the second year that the seventh grade students have taken this on as a mission’s project for the holidays and it is something I will continue to do in the future.”
