Honor comes just as salon celebrates second year anniversary SPARTA — Oasis Salon & Spa in Sparta was recently ranked in the top 100 salons in the United States by Beauty Entertainment magazine. Owner Shelly Gaughran is grateful to be in such good company as she celebrates the 2nd anniversary of Oasis this month. Last Sunday, Gaughran, her employees and several chosen models traveled to the Emiliani Beauty Expo at the New Jersey Convention & Expo Center in Raritan where they were honored at the Hot 100 Beautymaker awards. “Thousands of people attended the show. Those of us that were nominated were asked to do platform work. We did a stage presentation where we showed finished looks and presented them,” said Gaughran. She also had to prepare a sound byte describing Oasis to the crowd while the models displayed their hair style. “One of the parts that Beauty Entertainment magazine really liked is when I said this is not a pretentious salon. We are a welcoming salon where people leave feeling and looking great.” Based out of Hollywood California Beauty Entertainment is considered the People magazine of hair featuring salons and celebrities’ hairstyles and beauty notes. Widely available on the West coast and recently launched on the East coast, it can be purchased on newsstands, and photos taken from the show will be in an upcoming issue. Gaughran has earned the award through hard work and marketing. “The magazine sends secret clients in. They check out your Web site. It is based on sales and salon experience. I use the magazine for my marketing,” she explains. Gaughran prides her staff in having positive energy and professionalism that translates into a happy clientele. After two years, she finds her patrons are generally conservative but diverse in age and lifestyle who all want wearable trends. Oasis Salon & Spa was also the only salon from Northwest New Jersey represented and ranked in the top 12 New Jersey salons: “The business has grown in a very positive direction. I have included more staff. Because of the credibility of the magazine, we are attracting new clients every day.” Gaughran is involved with the Sparta community and looks forward to continued growth and many more successful years. “We’re really fortunate to be recognized for our passion. I have been in this business for 32 years and have never loved it more.” Oasis Salon & Spa, 17 Woodport Road, 973-726-6274, www.spartaoasissalon.com.
