Olde Lafayette takes another step toward becoming most dog-friendly place

Lafayette — Lafayette Village has now officially opened its new Dog Socialization Center based on the AKC’s “S.T.A.R.” (Socialization, Training, Activity, Responsibility) and other programs. With the installation of facilities including the off-leash dog run, socialization paths, pet sitting, dog grooming, dog-friendly stores, water and “convenience” stations, the shopping center made a big leap to position itself as New Jersey’s Dog Friendliest Village. Now it has its own in-house trainer, Shelley Clawson of K-Nine Coaching, who will offer owner advice and instruction, as well as tips on how to use a new added feature to the Lafayette Village grounds — a marked, self-directed socialization course. This doggie and owner “to do” list is a way to get your “paw in the door” of the AKC-approved socialization process, Clawson says. Visitors can stop by and see Shelley to learn more about the AKC “S.T.A.R” and other programs. Clawson has dedicated her life to the care, training and enjoyment of animals and has more than 15 years experience working within the AKC and other suggested dog training methods. She has her office in the space across from the dog run next to Fuzzy Nation. She is available Wednesday through Sunday during regular Village hours. For a list of class descriptions and times go to Facebook.com/K-Nine Coaching or call 973-940-0590. Olde Lafayette Village is located at 75 Route 15 in Lafayette.
