SPARTA - Pope John XXIII High School's "Operation Smile" will sponsor its annual car s how from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 8, in the school parking lot. Rain date for the event is Saturday, May 15. Pre-registration is $8. Registration the day of the event is $10. Cost for spectators is $5. For more information call 973-729-6125 or email operationsmile@popejohn.org. The event benefits Operation Smile, a project of the school's Happy Club, an organization that sponsors medical teams in U.S. inner cities and Third World countries, which perform corrective surgeries on children with facial deformities or disfigurements, such as cleft lips and palates. Each team sent is comprised of volunteer physicians, nurses and two students. The money raised from the events sponsored by Pope John's Happy Club is sent to Operation Smile headquarters in Norfolk, Va. Since all participants on the mission are volunteers, the funds raised help to defray costs associated with flight arrangements, medical supplies and food.
