Officers perform lifesaving CPR

On Sept. 15, Byram Township Police officers were dispatched to an unknown medical emergency at a residential address. While responding, the nature of the medical emergency was upgraded to CPR in progress. Upon arrival, patrols found a 60-year-old male who was not breathing and had no pulse. Sergeant Daniel DeWald, Officer Victor Marin, and Officer Marcus Lisa continued CPR, attached an automatic external defibrillator, and removed a large quantity of food from the victim’s airway. EMTs from the Lakeland Emergency Squad and St. Clare’s Paramedics responded to the scene and took over lifesaving efforts from the officers. Ultimately, the victim’s airway was cleared, and he regained a pulse. The Lakeland Emergency Squad transported the victim to the hospital, where he was admitted.
