Kayla Curtis, 25, of Lake Hopatcong was charged with driving while intoxicated, speeding, expired license, careless driving and failing to yield at intersection after P.O. Erick Finley observed a white Jeep Grand Cherokee travelling north on Woodport Road 61 mph in a 45 mph zone. He stopped the vehicle on Woodport Road and approached the driver - Curtis - and asked her for her credentials. Finley detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage and asked Ms. Curtis to perform Field Sobriety tests. Officer Wenzel arrived on scene to continue the DWI investigation. After completion of the testing, Curtis was placed under arrest for DWI and transported to Sparta Police HQ for processing. Curtis was advised of a mandatory court appearance and released to a sober adult.
Rosa Marroquin, 45, of Teaneck was charged with driving while intoxicated, failure to maintain lane, careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident. At approximately 11:55 p.m., a grey Toyota Sienna struck a traffic light pole at the intersection of Rt 15 and Lafayette Road. P.O. Paul Wenzel arrived on scene and observed the vehicle stopped behind the downed pole. As Officer Wenzel turned his vehicle around, the vehicle drove off heading south on Rt 15. Officer Wenzel stopped the vehicle and approached the driver - Marroquin - and asked her if the damage to her vehicle was caused by striking the traffic pole. Ms. Marroquin denied hitting a traffic pole and stated that the damage was caused by her striking a mailbox when leaving her friend’s house. Ms. Marroquin was asked to step out of her vehicle to perform Field Sobriety tests. Upon completion of the tests she was placed under arrest for DWI and transported to Sparta Police HQ for processing. She was advised of a mandatory court appearance and released to a sober adult.
