Project Self-Sufficiency legal clinic set for May 18
Newton - Project Self-Sufficiency will offer a legal clinic at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, at the agency’s Career Center, located on the first floor at 61 Spring St. in Newton. The non-profit organization has teamed with local attorneys to sponsor a program to aid participants with preparing and filing family law motions, particularly in the areas of child support, visitation and custody. The free clinic, which does not provide legal representation, consists of meeting with an attorney who assists participants to properly complete paperwork. Elizabeth Calandrillo, local attorney, will facilitate the May 18 clinic. She is an associate with the firm of Morris, Downing & Sherred in Newton, specializing in all aspects of matrimonial and family law. A graduate of Seton Hall University School of Law, she is licensed to practice law in both New Jersey and New York. Project Self-Sufficiency provides its clients with services including one-on-one consultations with area attorneys, a court accompaniment service, pro se divorce workshops, legal clinics for assistance with the preparation of family law motions, and monthly legal forums. Many of the services are open to the public. “We are fortunate to have a panel of distinguished attorneys from the area who donate their time and expertise to our clinics and seminar series,” said Holly Lusardi, Project Self Sufficiency’s legal services coordinator. “The legal clinic is a do-it-yourself program with volunteer attorneys acting as facilitators. The goal of the agency’s overall legal services program is to eventually provide more legal services to income-eligible clients who meet certain established criteria.” The clinic is open to the public, however, participants must meet certain eligibility requirements.
