Quinn Award honorees named

Newton The recipients of the Mrs. Joseph P. Quinn Sr. Award are Nancy Caragher, Red Cross chairman of volunteers, and Robert B. Nicholson III, president/CEO of Eastern Propane Corp. They will be the guests of honor at the Quinn Award Celebration, an elegant black-tie affair to be held on Friday, Oct. 15 at Perona Farms. The Quinn Award is given in memory of Mrs. Joseph P. Quinn Sr. who founded the Sussex County Chapter of the American Red Cross in 1917. Many Quinn family members, including Joe Quinn (1916-2009), Jeff Quinn of Andover, and Kevin Quinn of Sparta, have continued the family tradition of supporting their local Red Cross. Day said, “This past year there was an unprecedented need for Red Cross Disaster Services in Sussex County. In one two-week period alone, five fires rendered scores of our neighbors homeless and in need of the Red Cross. Disaster Action Team members were on site in all cases, insuring that emergency needs were met and providing the comfort of the Red Cross presence.” According to Day, this year’s honorees make this type of response possible. Chairman of volunteers and herself a Disaster Action Team member, Caragher insured that the chapter had the human resources needed to respond whenever/wherever people in Sussex County needed the Red Cross. As chairman of the Heroes for the American Red Cross Campaign, Nicholson insured that the chapter had the needed financial resources. Past Quinn Award recipients include Glen Vetrano, Newton Memorial Hospital, Lakeland Bank, and Reverend Monsignor Kieran McHugh. Given annually, this is the local chapter’s highest award. Tickets to the Oct. 15 Quinn Award Celebration are $135. Prices for ads in the commemorative journal start at $75. For information call 973-579-1600 or visit www.sussexredcross.org.
