Red Cross offers training for babysitters

    Newton — The Sussex County Chapter of the America Red Cross will offer a Babysitter’s Training course on Wednesday, June 29 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The fee for this course is $70 and includes all course materials, supplies and a certification card. Designed for 11 to 15-year-olds, the course will teach participants to: * Care for children and infants. * Be a good leader and role model. * Make good decisions and solve problems. * Keep the children and babysitter safe * Handle emergencies such as injuries, illnesses and household accidents. * Write resumes and interview for jobs. The course has an interactive, educational format that tasks youth with activities such as identifying safety problems around the house and yard and selecting age-appropriate toys and games for children in their care. Participants learn by doing. For an additional $12, a portfolio style first aid/safety kit that easily fits the babysitter training book is available. This portfolio makes it easy for sitters to carry important information on the job. There is a limited supply of these and they can be purchased at the time of registration or the day of the class.
