Sussex County — The Sussex County Chapter of the American Red Cross will be holding a babysitting course from 1 to 5 p.m. on Jan. 9 and 16. Enrollees must attend both days in order to receive certification.  This course teaches on-the-job babysitting responsibilities, safety, first aid, rescue breathing, choking procedures and basic child care skills such as diapering and feeding. This course generally has a wait-list, so early registration is recommended. "While this is a fun, interactive class, some of the issues we're dealing with are very serious in nature and babysitters need to know how to act quickly in an emergency. I would say this class is a must for anyone responsible for looking after children," said Red Cross Volunteer, Sherry Clain, who teaches the class. Classes will be held at the Sussex County Chapter located at 93 Spring Street in Newton. Cost is $45.  Pre-payment and registration are required. Contact the Chapter's Health & Safety Department at 973-579-1600 ext. 12 or healthandsafety@sussexredcross.org to register.
