Repairs continue of Breakneck Road

Vernon — Some residents expressed concern that after Breakneck Road was reopened since post-hurricane repairs were made, it was closed again as more damage was found. But, a phone call to Mayor Vic Marotta’s office cleared up some misunderstandings. Marotta said that work is continuing on the shoulder of the road, which is something the road department knew about and expected would have to be done. “The road is still open, but there may be slower traffic,” Marotta said. Vernon's DPW crew is now working to repair erosion on the shoulders of the road, resulting from the storm. In addition, Sussex Rural Electric is cutting down trees that may interfere with the power lines. The softened soil from all the rain has loosened roots and some trees are in danger of being uprooted and falling.
