tradition of excellence after graduation Sparta - The Reverend Brown School Class of 2006 is continuing the school’s tradition of excellence. Of the 50 graduating eighth-graders, 42 have been accepted to Pope John XXIII High School, four have been accepted into other prestigious private schools, and others have been accepted into honors classes in public schools. Of the 42 going to Pope John, one-half (21) placed into honors or advanced courses. In addition, two thirds of these students placed into two or more honors or advanced courses in social studies, science, math, English and Spanish. The four students attending other private schools have chosen slightly different paths. Cathlyn Pistolas of Andover will attend the Academy of St. Elizabeth, an all-girls school in Convent Station, where she gained early acceptance. Liz Walsh of West Milford will attend Morris Catholic in Denville, where she may be involved in programs that Morris Catholic has in association with Seton Hall. Jill Kingsley of Saylorsburg, Pa., will attend Pius X in Roseta, Pa. Jessica Siemer of Sparta will attend Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass. Previous graduates of Phillips Andover include presidents George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush, Governor Jeb Bush, John F. Kennedy, Jr., Humphrey Bogart, Jack Lemmon, Oliver Wendell Holmes and Samuel Morse. Asked to comment on her accomplishment in being accepted into Phillips Academy, Siemer said, “It’s really nothing special. I have a lot of friends at Reverend Brown who are capable of this. Reverend Brown is a great school.” Siemer scored in the 99 percentile on the Cooperative Test and 96 percentile on the Secondary Scholastic Aptitude Test, with a perfect 800 score in verbal aptitude. “Reverend Brown has successfully prepared me for honors classes,” declared Joe Skaleski of Andover, who was accepted into honors classes at Pope John and Newton. Taylor Vozza, president of the student council at Reverend Brown, will be the seventh child in her family to go to Pope John, but she probably won’t be the last. She also has a younger sister at Reverend Brown. “I am really excited about going to Pope John,” said Selena Noel. “Qualifying for honor courses and then advanced placement courses will be a great help in preparing me for college.”
