Sale to aid historic Sparta window restoration
Sparta - The Institute for Spiritual Development will hold an “Estate and More Sale” from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, June 16, and Saturday, June 17, at 15 Sparta Ave. in Sparta. The event will be held rain or shine. Antiques, interesting older treasures, new and gently used items will be on sale. All proceeds will be put into the Window Fund and used to restore the historic stained glass windows in the building. “Our efforts and community support for our fund raisers have enabled us to restore one double window at the cost of $14,000, and we have eight more to go,” said Helen Buckley, organizer of the event. Built in 1868, the building at 15 Sparta Ave. is first to be placed on the register of historical buildings by the Sparta Historical Society. The stained glass windows are believed to be created in the Tiffany/LeFarge method and made by the Lewis Tiffany Company in the late 1800s, near the turn of the century.
