SCCC holds grand opening of diversity center

    SUSSEX COUNTY - The Grand Opening and Open House for Sussex County Community College’s new Center for Diversity and Equality (CDE) will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14. Refreshments will be served and visitors can learn about diversity initiatives at SCCC. Additionally, those who attend will have the opportunity to pick up a schedule of events and a diversity calendar. The Grand Opening will be hosted by Paul Prestwich and Harry Damato. Live music will be provided by Marafanyi Percussion: Drum, Voice and Percussion in Poetic Motion. The Sussex County Hispanic Heritage Roundtable will be held monthly at the CDE, beginning at 7 p.m. on Sept. 12. The CDE will co-sponsor the Hispanic Heritage Picnic from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept.16 on the Connor Green. The Business and Professional Women of NJ, Inc. will facilitate a workshop series at the CDE titled Individual Development: Business and Workplace Skills Workshop Series. This will be held in four two-hour sessions from 1-3 p.m. Oct. 5, Oct. 12, Oct. 19, and Oct. 26 at the CDE. Light refreshments will be served. Several counseling support groups will be held on a regular basis beginning September 11, including Parenting Your Parents, Making Peace with Food, and a Bereavement Group. The CDE’s first Cinema Cafe movie night will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 27 with a diversity-minded movie and discussion. Refreshments will be served.
