SCCC to hold auditions for musical comedy

    Newton — The Sussex County Community College production of The Broadway musical, "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" will be performed at the Performing Arts Center in Newton. Auditions are held at the SCCC Performing Arts Center from 6 - 9:30 p.m. on following dates: September 8, 12, 14 (required & includes dance), 15 (call back if needed or first rehearsal). A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum is a omedy that includes in its plot: love, marriage, humor, music, singing, dancing, intrigue, mistaken identities, potions, pirates, slavery, the quest for freedom and much more. "Tragedy tomorrow, comedy tonight!" is the opening song. There will be 5 performances the weekend of December 2, 3, and 4. This musical requires an eclectic ensemble cast of different ages. Auditions are open to the general public and the SCCC Community. There are roles suited for performers 17 to 80 years old. All actors are welcome from the novice to the experienced. "We look forward to encouraging young and mature people who want a first chance at acting in a musical or who wish to return to the stage in this dynamic and fun musical" said director Stella Trikouros. Rehearsals will generally be held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. All performers who audition should come with a photograph of themselves for I.D. purposes only. Photographs will not be returned. Performers should come in comfortable clothing and be prepared to sing two minutes of a song of their choice, A cappella or with a CD. A monologue is not necessary but will be heard if it is less than 45 seconds. Performers will also be asked to read from the script, be given improvisations to do and a short dance routine to perform in a group.
