Skylands Ice World re-opens its doors to a grateful skating public

Stockholm - Skylands Ice World had its official re-opening last Saturday and opened the ice to the public for the first time this year in afternoon and evening skating sessions. While there is no doubt that the re-opening of the ice rink is welcomed by area high school ice hockey teams, its attraction to the recreational skater can not be underestimated. “It’s a great place to come with the family and get some exercise while you are having fun,” said Wendy Haynes of Hardyston. With the focus of the new ownership being all about the ice and not about off-ice activities, it seems that there will be something for everyone at the new Skylands. “We renamed the ice rinks the Forum and the Coliseum and the kids really get a kick out of that,” said general manager Bradford Johnson. “We have a team of professionals who keep the ice in perfect condition, and that’s what this is really all about,” he added. Parents like Brian Conghlan of Hamburg, who has two young sons who love ice hockey but wasn’t prepared to travel a couple of hours to ice facilities, are overjoyed to have Skylands back in operation. “My kids just didn’t play, which was a shame as we used this place all the time between family skating, hockey camps and the kids playing on the squirt teams,” he said.
