SPARTA - More than 50 people attended the April 28 meeting of the Community Facilities Taskforce meeting, hosted at the Sparta High School. After a brief update from the group facilitator, the subcommittees began their work. Various documents were provided to the specific subcommittees, including district budget data, site plans, existing floor plans, a draft copy of the district's demographic report and more. At the request of the Educational Program Committee, Judy Geddis, director of special services, presented information about the special education program in the district and the various requirements Sparta Schools must follow. In addition, Keith Gourlay, the district's supervisor of buildings and grounds, addressed the concerns and questions of both the Site/Land and Facilities/Space committees. Earlier in the week the 19 members of the Facilities and Space Committee visited each of the schools while in session. The tours, led by district Superintendent Dr. Tom Morton and the various building administrators, were conducted over a two-day period to accommodate the entire committee in shifts. The next CFT meeting was scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, in the Sparta High School cafeteria. Dr. Len Elovitz was expected to present a draft version of the recently completed demographics report at this meeting. Sparta residents are encouraged to visit the Community Facilities Taskforce section of the district's Web site at www.sparta.org for additional information. The Web site provides an opportunity to ask questions about the committee and provide comments about the project. Questions and responses and comments will be posted on the Web site on an ongoing basis.
