SPARTA-Sparta Books has announced the initiation of its Children's Book Award Program, which is open to all students in kindergarten through eighth grade. The program is in keeping with First Lady Laura Bush's recent prompting to students at an elementary school in Albuquerque. "Here is the other thing I want you to do ... I want you to try to read at least 10 books, either by yourself or with your mother and dad," she challenged. An ardent lover of books and reading, Mrs. Bush went on to announce: "I'm going to read 10 books this summer." Sparta Books is encouraging the First Lady's challenge by offering one free paperback to all children who read 10 books, which will be recorded in its Children's Book Award Program. There is no initiation or registration charge for the Children's Book Award Program. Children must simply request their own buyer's card when visiting the store. Sparta Books is located at 41 Theatre Center (Route 181), Sparta.
