Sparta High School Biology Teacher, Antonia Adamiak accompanied a group of honors biology students to Costa Rica this summer. The group studied sea turtles and what can be done to help them from becoming extinct. They also toured the Tortuguero area by canal. Among the animals they sighted were spider monkeys, iguanas, herons, turtles, other birds, and caymen. Other activities included hiking through the rainforest where they did a community service project; zip lining, visiting an active volcano, and white water rafting. “It was a tremendous learning experience for the students,” said Adamiak.
