Sparta High School nominates eight students for New Jersey Governor's Schools

    Sparta - Eight students from Sparta High School have been nominated to the 2006 N.J. Governor’s Schools. The eight, announced by Stan Abromavage, director of guidance at the school, are Andrew Wang for the sciences, Bijan Niknam for international studies, Jeff Gottlieb for the arts (theatre), Evan O’Toole for the arts (classical music - trumpet), Denise Radeloff for the arts (vocal music - soprano), Sara VanderVeen for the arts (jazz music - alto saxophone), Megan Vitovic for the arts (creative writing) and Michael Yaw for the arts (classical music - percussion). The Governor’s Schools recognize outstanding high school students who have demonstrated leadership and talent in and out of the classroom. Each nominee must pass several highly competitive stages of competition at the school, county, and state level to be chosen to attend. Students spend four weeks with their academic peers during the summer at the host college or university, where they cultivate new skills and talents and explore issues of the day.
